and then you run and hide your head under an octopus...
So instead of actually researching theories on post-death (in Egypt right now, although I'm also half way through both Dante's Inferno and Aristophanes' Frogs) which I want to know before NaNo, or pestering Earthlink because apparently they are evil and don't allow people to access the NaNo website... I am going to post an abreviated entry on my weekend. As I think I mentioned, I went up to hydecat's wedding in Delaware, battling hours of evil beltway holiday weekend traffic, and staying in a vastly inferior hotel with (among other things) one glass wall leading patio-style into the interior pool and a 75-cent minimum charge for *local* calls. Other than this the weekend was excellent except for the one crutial detail that we managed to miss the wedding.
The hotels were all in Wilmington, and the ceremony was at a lovely old church in Historic New Castle, about 15 minutes away by my directions... the four of us in my car got off to a slightly late start (we were planning on leaving about half an hour early, and instead managed more like 20 minutes) and then managed to get hopelessly lost. Two roads on the directions completely failed to exist (unless the first one was a tiny thing we passed with no street sign on our side of a 4-lane divided highway) and state route 9, which was supposed to go right by the church, did a big circle around the other side of New Castle and wandered off into marshlands populated only by dive-bombing birds and industrial complexes. And by the time we realized that we had missed the entirety of New Castle, the wedding had been going on for about twenty minutes, and there wasn't anywhere to turn around. We finally managed to get back headed in the right direction (yay little toyota turning radius!) and abandoned 9 to its own devices while everyone else peered out the windows looking for the steeple we'd seen on the way in, which was occasionally visible through the trees. We made it to the church and opened the doors in time to see the bride & groom sweep around the corner in the recessional. George promptly had his umbrella comandeered by the bride (they had not been previously introduced) and we said hello to various of the crowds, got back in the car, and went straight back to the hotel to take the shuttle to the reception. I think I'm the only one who was horribly embarrassed, which is probably just because I was driving.
Anyway, back to Egypt; you may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
