...of course, everyone wants me to do things this weekend...

Things that are helpful:

*remember to place return address labels on packages before leaving for the post office

*lower the spout cover on the kettle if you wish it to call you when it is boiling

*plug in the phone charger to the wall, not merely the telephone

*do not breathe in the mist of cheap vodka while using it as a cleaning spray

*shoes = a nifty invention that keep the bugs from biting your feet

*not writing pointless lj posts when you don't particularly want to be useful. (um...)

vodka = clean?

It's a costuming trick. A heavy spritz of vodka (really cheap stuff works just fine) will take odors out of a lot of things. Sort of like Febreeze, only without adding an artificial scent. Some people swear it works wonders; I've found that for me it works fine sometimes and not at all others, probably depending on what I'm trying to deodorize. In this case I'm trying to get the smell of smoke out of a pair of secondhand boots, and it has improved them, if not solved the problem entirely.

Did you try the kitty litter thing? Or try wrapping them in newspaper and sticking them in a box for a while.

I think newspaper may be next if this doesn't work... they've been baking in the attic all summer, and the heat hasn't helped particularly.
