So, right. The weather has suddenly gotten lovely, the downstairs is still in flux, and my twitter client stopped speaking to twitter. (These are the major contributing factors to my not having posted this earlier.) We've been out for walks two mornings in a row, which was excellent, and the 2/3 done floor continues to look lovely & feel so underfoot.

Monday afternoon, grauwulf came home & pointed out that my carrion flower (which was exiled beyond the porch screen when the flower bud got longer than my hand) was blooming, complete with entourage of flies:

Unfortunately, one of them was sufficiently fooled to lay some eggs, so on tuesday morning we had tiny maggots starving to death. I was not a sufficiently devoted naturalist to bring something out to feed them.

In the Gladiatorial Arena, we have Baby vs Book:

(sometimes the book fights back...)

Meanwhile, downstairs there's a brain cell for the zombie-armed baby:

The port-a-crib has turned out to be extremely convenient for the early unassisted sitter during floor construction, as we can sit her down in it & two or ten or however many minutes later she topples gently over without clonking her head on the hardwoods. In another week or two sitting will be old hat, and she'll want more space to wriggle in, but by then we hope to have the rug down again.

"Original hardwoods" with giant mysterious boarded-up hole. (Our best guess is that it used to be some kind of giant heat vent from the basement, but for all we know something fell through & this is the repair.) Silly green foam padding, forming a glamorous moisture & temperature resistant barrier between here & the basement, and exciting tiger stripey engineered bamboo.

My fine upstanding baby (good thing she's not old enough to get tired of that joke...) from about two weeks ago. And one of the better captures of the anime grin.

And early sitting. The camera captures far more distinct planes of light on her skin and more of the silly baby mohawk thing than actual eyeballs do, but at least I've got a few that aren't "Serious Baby Contemplates Camera."

Letting the carelessly placed wigglers die is about as natural as it gets.

Natural yes, though not really supporting the diverse ecosystem. Though I see enough of these flies that I'm not too worried. :)
