thanate... but, but, American girls have Addy's Ironstone Compote. Ironstone! I've dug that up in the field before... hee hee. :)
And while I am not one of those people who gets a horribly expensive doll and then buys at least his cost again in clothing and accessories and paying other people to paint his face, I'm vaguely tempted to buy him Felicity's "guitar" (ok, I would have identified this as a mandolin, perhaps, or lute, given the shape and the fact that it only has 4 strings. Although admittedly lutes typically have more strings than guitars, and mandolin strings are usually doubled...) but anyway, I almost bought this when it first came out (mid-90s) for the ceramic doll I made in 5th grade. (she's very slightly smaller than American Girl sized, and of similar build) Of course, it's possible a harp would be a better instrument choice; I think he could actually play it without dislocating joints. And since at the moment his arms are strung too tightly to make that work anyhow...
And while I'm drooling over things, for some reason I've always been inordinately facinated by Molly's school stuff. Possibly it's just an early manifestation of the fixation with messanger bags. For the time period I'm sort of vaguely working with, Samantha's stuff would be a much better fit. Although I'm not entirely sure if the waif does school, anyway, and the school stuff comes tattooed with Samantha's name. And I've heard things about Target-brand American Girls spin off stuff being decent too, although I think that was about horses, so I'm not sure if they have anything historical. And if I wanted a horse, Vogue has a pattern to make one's own.
On the other hand, I just ordered a more-than-lifetime supply of doll buttons last week, and will likely not make further random online purchases until they come in. Or long after that, if at all...
