So the cataloging continues... there are far too many people in the lab, most of whom are washing things that I will get to catalog later on. And this process involves some knowledge of what things actually are, and a great deal of familiarity with the particular system Carey uses to catalog, which is why I'm the only one currently able to do it. Well, and because Carey is running around trying to manage everyone else (and tell me what the things I don't recognize are), and so is constantly being distracted from whatever else she's supposed to be doing.

Unfortunately, cataloging also involves writing everything down with pencil on paper (we tried typing things directly into the database, but this turned out not to be either space or computer efficient, since we've got a minimum of the former within reach of the latter, unless one unplugs Carey's laptop from the network so she can't do anything else) and my hand and wrist are reminding me that I haven't done this much note taking in the last decade. The muscles that support my fingers are... noticeable... all the way up to the shoulder, and when I foolishly tried to go climbing yesterday, I went off having any grip strength at all for a while. So I'm lazy and not at fencing. And whether I go climbing again soon is under review. Sigh. Maybe I should go all the way out to the Columbia gym on sunday after all... they have a more slab walls (that tilt slightly inward, so you can do more leaning into the wall and less pulling in to stay close.) Not that it isn't the tilting-out angles that I have trouble with normally...

But, but... cataloging is fun! (well, until I get to the awful stuff they're washing now, with a gallon plus bag full of clear modern glass shards, and more-than-that miscellaneous iron fragments. ooh, I could get tetanus without ever leaving the lab! um, yeah.)

In other news, I finally reset my serger (I had it on narrow 1-needle hem, and while there is a nice little chart telling you everything you need to do to put it into that mode, the manual totally fails to mention how to go back to standard mode, which you'd think would be clearly illustrated somewhere, but doesn't seem to be) and serged all the things I want to pre-wash so they won't have to sit on the floor beside the sewing machine. Someday, possibly, I will sort out everything and get it put away places. maybe...

...and my doll has braes! (medieval pictures/pattern/huh? & photos) Except that the fabric thickness to size ratio means that the part that's supposed to roll down to the waist doesn't roll smoothly and I ended up having to tie the sides behind his back. Which looks a little funny... I shall have to take them in in some fashion. And he needs at least a tunic for over the top, and probably a hood to hold his shorter wig on. Right now, he looks sort of egyptian, actually. I think it's just the white linen thing, though.

Braes! (because my doll is the second prettiest thing in the world! even if my camera isn't so good at that focus thing. Of course, if I actually went and got my tripod out of the car, where I never use it...)

Which, come to think of it, are not inappropriate for this weather...

Ok, put Mr Bear down now, please...

and while I'm having serious backdrop failures, here they are...

...even though the back looks pretty funny. but his hair sort of covers it...

someday I might even download the pictures from the cult meeting doll meet and put them where other people can see them.
