Important questions:

Does anybody know where I might find a miniature metal colander, about 2.5" in diameter? Amazon offers this, but it appears only to come in 3-packs, the smallest of which *may* be slightly too large. Although I suspect I could work with 3". And ideally, I think I'd prefer one in more this style... without the shiny new branding, of course.

and

If you were my card of silly little snappy barettes, where would I have put you?

Either I have nothing to say at all, or I am not saying it. Or both, I guess.

The smallest in this set (http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-CLM-3-Mini-Colander-Set/dp/B00004RDFJ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1212461831&sr=1-5) and this set (http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/progressive-set-of-3-stainless-steel-mini-colanders_pf-284785_xp.aspx?club_id=284785&sz=&sf=&rdr=1&cm_mmc=Shopping_Engine-_Amazon-_-Kitchen-_-Progressive%20Set%20of%203%20Stainless%20Steel%20Mini%20Colanders) is 2.75". This set (http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Stainless-Colanders-STAINLESS-STEEL/dp/B000ZHVRR8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1212461860&sr=1-5) is vaguer about sizes. I'm guessing they're telling you the size of the largest in the set, but I'm not sure. I'm also uncertain of the size of this one (http://www.amazon.com/Supreme-Housewares-Inc-70336-Strawberry/dp/B000WHX7VU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1212461860&sr=1-11) (it comes in other patterns too), but I think it's pretty small.
Otherwise, depending on how picky you're feeling or exactly what you're planning on doing with a very small colander, there are also tea strainers (http://www.amazon.com/Harold-Imports-English-Strainer-Chrome/dp/B000I1UXBW/ref=pd_sbs_hg_img_1), ornaments (http://www.amazon.com/CraftWholesale-Mini-Colander-Ornament/dp/B000UXBE7U/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1212461860&sr=1-19), and maybe doll accessories (1.25" diameter (http://www.dollhousesandmore.com/product/IM65075?meta=FRG&utm_source=GBASE&utm_medium=CPC&utm_content=&utm_campaign=))
I've also seen little kid play cooking sets at IKEA, and I think they ran towards the fairly tiny end, so it might be worth it to check there.

There is the disgustingly overflowing cooking supply store at the Columbia mall which I could be persuaded to stop by and check out for you. How many are you looking for?

One. And bring your ruler? If it's smaller than about 2.25" then it's too small for me to use.

Not urgent, either, though. :)

Meh, it's right around the corner (where corner equals many corners and a few miles, but whatever :) . I'll pop in today or tomorrow, sometime this week anyway, and check it out.

Man, I looked at that cooking supply store once. It's like Sur la Table, minus all the stuff I might actually want and minus the helpful staff.
