Aug. 16th, 2008 08:33 amI dreamed that I was walking down to (something vaguely like Church street in Vienna, only more rural) the commercial bit of some small-ish town in search of some breakfast, and all the shops were shut, but there were these women setting up in open air grills and tables in all the parking lots and cooking up hearty vaguely Indian-style food. Not for sale, mind you. They were part of a cult, which required cooking & eating this particular breakfast as the first step of their ritual.
I ended up getting caught up in a large crowd of people and drifting down to the riverbank at the bottom of the slope the town was on, where they stood on the bank and started their ritual. And then the first part ended with a bunch of men (six or eight, maybe?) wearing antlers tied to their heads coming up over the roof of the building that was between the crowd and the town and looking down at us & saying stuff. Only the antlered guy on the end was not actually wearing normal deer antlers; he had on some kind of thicker, stubbier, parody-like things that were tied to a top-hat instead of his head, and he kind of slipped away behind the building after everyone started paying attention to the lead antlered-guy. He looked vaguely familiar, so I followed him. And it turned out that he was the minister from
heuchera's church, who had come down to spy on the cult, since they were doing some kind of evil/nasty/immoral sort of things with their rituals. (I'm not entirely sure what those were, since apparently I left before they started, but I guess he'd been in the antlered-priest planning session?)
At any rate, after discussing this for a while in the parking lot behind the building the priests were standing on top of, I took off (never having found my breakfast) and ended up at some kind of cross between a convention, craft show and church info fair. I had a little table right behind the registration desk, although I'm not entirely sure what I was supposed to do with it. Mainly I was trying to make sure no one saw that I had a bunch of photographs from the cult meeting, as it turned out the cult was super-anxious not to let anyone outside their rituals know what was going on at them.
heuchera had a larger table at right angles to mine across the entryway, so she explained some of this to me, in between people going by and whatever it was she was doing with her table. And I kept thinking what I'd really rather do was leave before the cultists sorted out that I had anything to do with them (not that I did) and go find out what
grauwulf had gotten up to.
And then there was a bunch of stuff about wandering (not particularly quickly or urgently) around and through caves and castles. Or at least places with dark corridors and odd building structure. Although perhaps this actually happened first and was why I was looking for breakfast in the first place; I no longer quite recall.
This is still, however, better than yesterday, when I woke up by being panicked that the tree outside my window was going to fall on the house. It went creak quite loudly, and dropped some leaves. (So far it is doing fine, but I am convinced it will fall on us one day.)
