thanate: (bluehair)
We spent the weekend in the near end of Ohio visiting large numbers of [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf's relations (including a whole side of his family I hadn't met before) and my attempts to sort out all the names flying past my head lead to coaxing his grandmother to share some of her childhood history, which was absolutely fascinating, and a little geneological research to start from, if we care to look into such things. Aside from that, there was much driving, a bunch of sitting around casting on and abandoning the knitting project I was poking at, and some attempting not to run screaming away from everyone. As I told [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf afterwards, my family reunions are generally larger and throwing everyone together all weekend, so if you sneak off for a few hours of brain recharge time it's not nearly so obvious.

I dreamed that I was wandering around in a library and every time I picked up an interesting-looking YA book or two to check out I'd discover that two minutes later some girl had stolen it from the stack of books I was carrying it around. Around when I went to get in line to check out, there was one teenager who had zipped two of them up inside her hoodie so I couldn't tell she had stolen them. Apparently even my subconscious was full of people who wouldn't let me sit down and read a book. Frustrating.

(and nobody else has suggestions of "if you haven't read this yet, why not??" books? I am saddened.)

At any rate, today I attempt to play with super sculpey, the results of which (should the actually work out) will not be available to be shared for some time. La, la, la...

Pretending to be a responsible adult this morning (despite feeling like the cat has the right idea, as he hasn't stopped sprawling on the bed since I got up and opened the door to the bedroom) and despite the complete lack of the blue cross database having current information for the doctors I was attempting to look up, or the one lady we had recommended to us leaving a forwarding address from her last office (which also has changed their phone number...) I now have a designated PCP, who may coincidentally be [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf's randomly chosen PCP as well, although I'm not sure, and an appointment to go in for a physical and presumably learn what all else I'm supposed to be doing with my health insurance. Not until next month, but whatever. The big irritating step of getting into the system in the first place has been taken.

In the mean time, I continue to be reminded that I (probably like most people) tend to draw/sculpt/create the first of a supposedly symmetrical pair beautifully, and the second one to fail utterly. [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf came home briefly, before going back to whatever suddenly-absolutely-vital thing it is he's got going on at work this week (as if finals weren't enough...) and offered me clever alternate design ideas which may help, if I can sort out the appropriate materials. We shall see. And of course, there's nothing like getting to a frustrating point of one project to make one want to go on and do a related one, so there might be more sculpting on the horizon.

Today, however, the library is open during the day, and I think perhaps I shall go find a table there and write for a while. Possibly after lunch, though...
