Today I am behind on my wordcount for no particularly good reason, cold, and irritatingly tired. My attempt to take a nap lasted for about fifteen minutes. This is what comes of getting up an hour earlier than usual to go work in a high heat & humidity environment for most of the morning.

At the aquarium, they have put the large and obnoxious Australian birds (something honey-eaters, I think) in with the larger and carnivorous Australian birds (Kookaburras), as the former were banned from the main exhibit for killing smaller birds. They apparently test positive to some obscure bird disease that makes it difficult to find another institution that will adopt them, and were bored out of their little birdy skulls in the tiny holding cage, so they've been introduced into the Kookaburra's don't-kill-the-other-animals isolation cage and left to fend for themselves. At least within the first few hours, the two sets of birds seemed to be more or less pretending to ignore each other.

Meanwhile, I have climbed in, out, around, and over a good many of the climbable parts of the exhibit, watered plants from a long distance, and only managed to soak myself to the knees with hose overspray, rather than half-way up the thigh as I did last week. Also, I got a lovely swap package this afternoon, but this means more work, as now I have to post pictures of it. Sigh.

Caroline talks to an irreverent raven, and Mara is walking through the Jungle. Walk, walk, walk, bother these vines, oh look, I'm not dead. How nice... I hope.

What I hope is that this latter is not as boring as I'm currently afraid it is. Perhaps she'll either have to meet someone (human), or get where she's going so we can have more conversation. However, I have had an excellent hot chocolate, gotten enough groceries to survive another few days, and remembered that there are brownies in the freezer downstairs. Currently, there is also a cat sitting on the floor under my skirt.

I got a jungle tree of my own in the mail today, along with some other neat swap stuff. Some days, I think this swap thing is worth it...
