thanate: (bluehair)
I've been feeling spacey and semi-useless this week, punctuated by vivid dreams; two nights ago I dreamed about watching my brother playing a remake of the old Infocom game Enchanter, done in a similar graphics style to Diablo, and he explained to me that since it was made for system 9, I could play it on my computer as well. (It appears that my subconscious has decided that since I skipped from system 8.5 to X.2, all the intervening versions are compatible...) Last night I dreamed that [livejournal.com profile] garden_goth called to say that since she's leaving the country at 4 pm on Monday, it looks like it's too late to get together before she goes. This may well be true.

As it happens, I have accomplished a lot of little things; it's just that none of them quite fill up the mental space of "having done something" for the week, and being in that stage of calling people and leaving messages and neither hearing back nor calling back doesn't really help so much. I even went to the "beginner" Irish music jam session on monday night, and came away feeling a bit frustrated, as I find that "pick it up as you go" doesn't work so well as a theory when one is tossed into the middle of fast-paced fiddling without so much as a starting note, or the ability to hear what one is playing. Also, their theory of section repeats is not at all what I am used to, so even when I ran into things I knew, I'd keep tripping up about which bit of the tune we were on. I contemplate recording device possibilities, and possibly going out a few weeks without an instrument, as it's a lot easier to listen while not trying to sort out how to jump in. I've e-mailed the leader for a list of tune names, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. It does seem like the kind of thing that would be fun with a little more preparation, though.
