darnit, flamingoes, stop dying!
Mar. 7th, 2011 09:41 amNo boots, but I wrote almost exactly 1k words, which coincidentally got me to the end of the story, too. Turns out it wasn't a reverse little mermaid thing, but a selkie story after all, with a suggestion of a trickster maybe tricking another one, but from the viewpoint of someone who isn't really involved and thinks it's all rather silly. I seem to be doing a lot with taking the traditional sort of plotline and giving it someone else's priorities. Who's really going around living the heroic ideal, anyway? Saving the world is great, but if you rest on your laurels you'll still end up with no clean underwear left in the drawer....
Then I spent far too long (given that I started around 10 pm, which was supposed to be bedtime) playing the free demo of Wildlife Tycoon and trying to balance zebras, lions, and elephants in my ecosystem. I'm not sure it's really worth $20 to me to gain baboons and crocodiles, but I found it somewhat entertaining.
This morning, I pulled out one of the fingerling purple potatoes I was going to cut up for stew, and am planning to put it in a pot and see what happens. (It was already sprouting from all over.) I still need to work out how much topsoil I need, and then find out where best to get such, so back to designing garden beds, I guess.
