37.2k; in the desert, eating hearts
Nov. 22nd, 2011 08:27 amSpent a bunch of time yesterday and Sunday re-reading nano stuff and figuring out where to put more of it, followed by a reasonably productive writing day yesterday. It would have been more productive if my last writing block hadn't been derailed by spending an hour and a half reading about money. (bullet point commentary below) The confluence of this and NaNo have me wanting to go back and chart wordcounts for everything I've ever written in 1/10/100/1000 word block form. I've got most of it on my harddrive, too.
On a similar note (of weird demographic knowledge)today brought a chart on American Migrations. Click someplace. Then start looking up cities... or the places in the middle of North Dakota where not enough people came or went that it's got any arrows at all.
While you're playing with those, I'll be over here trying to remember what it is I've been doing pretty well in short stories and need to be doing in this novel in terms of building scenes and characters. I would be taking a nap, but there are people tromping around downstairs.
Things about money:
*There is a point where you start looking at comparisons and saying, "Oh, yeah, that's only a few billion dollars-- someone should totally do that!" I think this may be one of the things that's wrong with the people who work in governments; the sense of scale is not always helpful.
*Very amused by calling MC Frontalot in as an expert to determine JK Rowling's worth, had she been a rapper. Also the inflation on 50 Cent.
*Rather pissed off about "animals and environment" being the smallest named block of charitable donations. Not that I begrudge money going to rescue ex-domestic animals, but feral cats are not going to affect the tons of plastic and crap floating out into the oceans, or make it more likely that we will survive the next century with functional ecosystems. What you can't see in front of you isn't worth preventing.
