We're approaching that time when we actually need to make a decision and buy something, so I figured I'd ask if anyone with recentish car seat experience has recommendations.

We kind of like the idea of something with a (preferably minimal) bassinet/seat for which you can buy a fixed base to put in each vehicle, but we also rather like the idea of something that does the modular room-to-grow-in sort of thing so we don't have to go out and get another one in a year or two. Preliminary research suggests that we'll probably have to pick one or the other of these models. (Also, I am hoping to do much more wrap-carrier carrying than carting the kid about in a car seat bucket or modular stroller system, if that makes a difference to what you'd expect to be useful.)

(ETA- we're good on carriers-- being me, I'm far more comfortable with a 5-yard swath of linen and helpful youtube videos than all the odd strap & buckle things.)

The last couple days have been very "I hate everything" for reasons that probably aren't worth going on about; it is pretty obvious even from inside my head that I'm overreacting about #stupidthing, which means I'm entirely sure I wouldn't be able to make a rational decision about it even if I had enough useful data to do so, which I know that I don't. But I'm losing a stupid amount of time to being frustrated when I ought to be doing various things involving house cleaning (for this weekend) and reconstruction (for the nursery & various other improvements to household functionality) and this does not help either. I find myself contemplating dying blue streaks into my hair as one of those odd cheer-oneself-up tactics. (I was vaguely contemplating it before, as this is the first time I haven't theoretically had to look respectable if asked since before doing enough dye testing to be confident I'd get my normal color back eventually, but I still haven't decided whether I actually want blue hair.)

It's also my one week off before I'm supposed to be in the doctor's office weekly, which is probably just as well given that grauwulf has had my car all week while his is getting bits fixed. (Theoretically he's supposed to get it back sometime today. This is nice, as I would like to go grocery shopping before late-at-night someday, and maybe pick up my library books & things.)

As of last week (and based on her movement patterns, I don't think this has changed) the kid had settled into her approved head-down orientation with her body curled along my left side; if all goes well she should more or less stay there, kicking away, for the next month or slightly more. At that point not only does she get squished out into a world full of air and cold rather than warmth and liquid, where she has to sort out breathing and how to imbibe her own food and digest it, but her silly parents will attempt to convince her that actually, the head is supposed to point upwards. Even how to deal with gravity changes. Crazy.
