thanate: (whirlpool)
I am trying to be delighted about the unexpected snow (which I will have to clear off my car in the morning before taking the Megatherium to school) rather than continuing furious about the 2 hour argument in which I was trying to talk about appropriate language for small children & grauwulf was trying to argue against religious brainwashing. (Child picked up "oh my god!!" from school & is currently saying it b/c she's testing all the boundaries she can find and throwing tantrums every time she hits a wall. Speaking of walls, the ten minutes of screaming b/c I didn't buy her a lollypop at the mall despite clearly telling her I wasn't going to from the outset is the kind of thing that drives me up one.)

Anyway, some long time ago I was going to blog about having printed out some Ann Wood horse templates in 1/16th scale so as to have one sized for a matchbox swap, colored them in with dayglo highlighters, and now I'm cutting them out & putting them together a few a week at library playdates & suchlike. Looking at her pictures, I think this may be the obvious intersection between my fascination with little jointed paper dolls from recent papercraft swaps and paleoart herds of ice age animals, tho that means I need to pattern some things, which may or may not actually happen. But I will have a herd of tiny improbably colored horses to stick on a wall or something. Certain parties would say this is because I'm secretly still twelve, but I have twinkle-toes that fit me, so pfft to that.*

*my inner twelve-year-old approves of swearing even less than I do.

Meanwhile, I bought a design pack of swirly stylized horses which I'm now sewing up in improbable thread colors, so apparently horses in bright pink, purple, & teal is now a Thing.

Does anyone know where to source red ocher appropriate for grinding up to make paint out of? So far all I've seen is preground as a makeup additive. (which I may get also, as I don't know how long either the Megatherium or I will be entertained by grinding ocher, but we'd like to try the rock grinding part, too.)

Holiday cards may be a lost cause.
