thanate: (whirlpool)
*I have yet to reach my 1K/day word goal once, but every day so far I have written over 200 words (mostly in the 350-500 range) and the story is taking shape.

*I am slightly boggled by YA writers who do teen romances *all the time*. (as I attempt to navigate the relationship between a narrator & the prince she just married within 5 minutes of meeting him...)

*We have TWO!! tables downstairs in a state of usability rather than random crap depository. (not my desk, tho)

*I even vacuumed the living room rug! Two weeks in a row!

*The Megatherium remains unconvinced by homework, but has progressed to the point where she's re-reading books to avoid writing down the title/author/answer to a question about them. And long may she remain untraumatized by math homework. (I went off math when they made me do a year of timed equation worksheets, ugh.)

*Still walking 3-5 miles a day on schooldays; the horribly steep hills are almost a little less awful, and now I need to stretch more.

*mutter mutter about people who send me more pokemon gifts without actually opening the one I sent last week. Also, I am now 3-star friends with two unrelated people who live on the west coast & I haven't seen in person for years.

*I have finally found a satisfactory dark green hair dye, so now I have a dark green streak along with the green-gold bits from the overtone conditioner. I think this is my look for now.

*I remain deeply confused when my unnaturally colored hair still has split ends, since obviously it isn't natural anymore, I guess?

*There was an "It's the end of the decade! What have you done?" meme on twitter for a while, to which I say, "Yeah, I'm about to turn 41; where were you all last year?"

*Have realized that I'm setting up a character for the most ghastly PTSD ever, & wondering if there's a reasonable conclusion to that besides dying.

*Just finished Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City which I quite enjoyed except for the end doing a thing I find irritating (not unjustified, but sort of a cop-out) but now those characters are taking up valuable space in my head instead of the ones I'm supposed to be writing about.

*I guess I still have trouble with writing & reading books at the same time. Bother.

*There are a whole bunch of things I meant to write here & have forgotten what they were. Some multiple times.

*Working through The Codex Guide to the Medieval Baltic which is super fascinating and useful, but has sadly little about material culture such as what were people drinking out of, anyway? Need to track down some SCA research types who know this stuff.

*Apparently Pagan Lithuania was a Thing through the 1400s, with dense guerilla-warfare-enabling forests so they held their own against their Teutonic crusader-neighbors despite older technology.

*Do actual cold-weather leg warmers for post-toddler children exist somewhere? My child is currently leggings-all-the-time for her daytime clothes, & I can't seem to find leg warmers that aren't frilly ballet-studio things in her size. I may have to knit something, I guess.
