I started writing a post on Friday, and got far enough that I felt like I rather ought to finish it, except that I had no particular interest in doing so. It's been sitting around in an unopened window ever since. (The problem with having a laptop that is perfectly happy to sleep rather than shutting down all the time is that I usually have about ten different browser windows open at a time, most with multiple tabs... not to mention two or three story documents, several e-mails I mean to reply to, itunes, my twitter client, a couple finder windows, and goodness knows what else. It drives [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf nuts anytime he has to use my computer for something.)

Meanwhile, I have spent the weekend distracting myself, posting things I don't actually like to etsy (well, yesterday's thing; today's was fine), eating far too many peanut-butter jumbles (made because we had a nearly full box of very stale Tasteeos to use up), and cleaning house so my parents could come and give us hand-me-down tools and my grandfather's set of longhorn horns. (The latter are my fault, as I claimed them when we were sorting out the random bits of the TX estate. My father told [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf that he probably didn't realize he was marrying a museum. I say if people are going to call me a museum, I want some display cases.)

Speaking of curation, however, here is the aforementioned abandoned post. We shall label it #35A.09.11.2009, and also note the archival nature of the subject line:

It seems that neither of us will be wandering off to distant places this weekend after all, which is probably just as well. Meanwhile, I have finally caved and shut all the windows downstairs, as (even with two layers of long sleeves and some nice heavy half-gloves) I was reaching the point of feeling a bit too cold for comfort. It is definitely time to pester the people who came to give us an estimate on a new heating and a/c unit and never delivered their final paperwork, although I don't believe for a moment it won't warm up to sad and too-warm temperatures by about next week.

I should be digging things out of the storage building, but it hasn't stopped raining since I got up this morning, and I'm using that as an excuse to put it off. Meanwhile, the basement is flooding again (I know...) and I just moved a cardboard box containing a motorcycle battery out of the resulting puddle. Oy.

I'm reading James Morrow's The Philosopher's Apprentice, which is quite interesting in a more-or-less real world sort of way.

My insights on reading of normal fiction, and how a particularly well-written book when set in the present or near-future will not get as much of my attention as perhaps it deserves, will have to wait for a later time. Or be lost in the mists, depending...
