car surgery
Jun. 20th, 2006 09:56 amSo I took the car in to the dealership get the basic service (which I'm going to need to start pricing elsewhere, at least for the ones that are just oil change & tire rotation, as I'm sure I can get that done cheaper...) and they say that first, they're incompetent, and can't fix the broken defroster wire on the rear window (the last time one broke I mentioned it and the dealership in PA just fixed it for me, no problems) and say I need to go to a glass place for that. And then they try to tell me that the reason my a/c is broken is because of the collision that messed up my bumper two years ago, despite that it stopped working maybe all of 2 months ago... I think they just notice bumper damage and assume it's responsible for all the problems I might have, given that they did that last time about scraping noises I'm convinced involved the rear wheels, and got fixed by the tire rotation not whatever they did.
But anyway, the whatever-it's-called bit that the coolant flows through is a panel right inside the front bumper, and it's cracked (possibly, they admit, because of a rock getting kicked up into it or somesuch, this happens all the time-- oh great, a design flaw, I say) and needs to be replaced so it'll stop leaking. And they need to order the part (1 day delivery, but still) and then put it in before they can make sure there's nothing else wrong with it... And so far this is already up to a month and a half of what I was hoping to have as savings instead. Phoey. What am I buying myself for a birthday present? Air conditioning, apparently.
