Plants!

Outside is doing beautifully, now that we've had enough rain to get the soil back wet again, and I should be taking advantage of the lovely breezy weather to do some planting outside. (I've got a flat of little swamp mallows to put somewhere, since they were on reserve for filling in the front garden beds at the aquarium and turned out not to be needed, and all the daffodils along the back of the house could use digging up and moving elsewhere.) The milkweed has run out of seeds, and migratory bird season has begun before the starlings managed to clear out all the pokeweed berries, so at least the first round or two of overnight guests should have something to eat. The squirrels are going crazy in typical fall manner and dropping acorns on our heads.

Inside, I'm making an attempt at a winter herb garden, and I just acquired a little carrion flower cutting that fell off a very large and about-to-bloom cutting that my supervisor at the aquarium had just acquired from a co-worker in another department, so the craft room window will have plants in it. I turned down a little citronella eucalyptus on the grounds that I don't go in that room everyday and couldn't swear to remembering to water it. (Also, I don't actually like citronella...) Of course, this afternoon my logic circuits caught up with me and pointed out that the craft room, besides having the most accessible sunny windowsill, is also where I keep my underwear and socks, so I do go there at least once a day. This is no guarantee that I'll be entirely awake at the time, though, or thinking about watering plants. The carrion flower, being a euphorbia (old world equivalent of cactus) should be ok; apparently it comes from southern/South Africa, so I suppose I should water it every time it rains in Johannasburg. (Following the family tradition that one ought to water cactus every time it rains in El Paso.)

Other than that I continue to be completely incapable of actually doing anything except poking at messes I've made trying to reorganize, cleaning them up, strewing other things about the world by way of sorting them, getting discouraged, and going on to do nothing whatsoever productive. I think there is an end somewhere, but I'm not quite sure where that is, and I'm really looking forward to the time that I manage to rediscover my sewing machine so I can use it...

This weekend [personal profile] grauwulf and I are going to the Sugarloaf craft fair on Saturday, and then on Sunday he is going to stay home, do homework, and watch his football team lose (or not!) and I am going to make it out to MD faire. Anything I shouldn't miss?
