Things I have done instead of writing anything since tuesday:

*discovered that the closest sewing machine repair shop really is a 20 minute drive away,
*gotten a replacement screw to hold the needle into the old singer so I can play with cool sewing machine feet
*gotten landscape timbers (on half off, since Home Depot was convinced that it wasn't spring yet, so I had to wait for them to pull the things down with the forklift)
*spent all thursday at the Aquarium, cleaning up after birds & watching dolphins. I can now identify six of the eight dolphins if they cooperate (ie swim where I can see them), but they haven't sent out their blogging policy yet, so I don't know if there's anything else I'm allowed to tell you.
*read a couple books
*ordered exciting seeds & started to work on where I'm going to plant them all
*built up the back garden bed by another two landscape timbers in height (so the knotweed & trash infested soil won't keep falling in...)
*swept dirt back out of the house (several times...)
*strewn fertilizer/mycorrhizial components about the back lawn & (I trust) the oak trees
*knitted a few rows of sweater body
*worked out a semi-solid list of things to send in the swap package
*balanced the check book, paid bills, etc
*taken the lovely wedding cross-stitch [personal profile] grauwulf's mother made us out of the frame she'd masking taped it into, washed it, and taken it to get a proper high quality framing while the craft store still had 60% off
*gone out for an early birthday dinner for [personal profile] grauwulf (on Thursday, as there was time)
*started pulling shoes apart to put exciting electrical components in the heels.
*made several sorts of food, including particularly tasty pancakes!

Pancakes, today's version:

2 cups ordinary unbleached flour
1/2 cup rye flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 T Food Lion double acting baking powder (roughly equivalent to 2 T normal stuff)
a scant 1 t salt
2 1/2 T sugar

mixed, then add wet:
4 T cooking oil
2 eggs
about 1 t vanilla extract (I used the fake stuff, since I'm trying to get rid of that last bottle)
2 1/4 c milk (today we had 1% instead of skim)

mix well, pour in as many pecan bits as make you happy, mix well again. Then cook however you like your pancakes-- I do roughly fist-sized ones, and this is a double batch and should make enough for 4-6 people, or breakfast for two and a bunch to freeze and have later in the week. (take from freezer & transfer directly to toaster, toast on light to medium, flip, toast again, eat.)

Today I really am going to do something useful (boot patterning &/or at least 1k words for a goal) but I wanted to write down the pancake recipe first, as the last time I tried to use the rye flour it worked out badly.

Now back to that "why is there suddenly a selkie in this story, and what does it want?" problem again.
