"...and a dream of a baby..."
Jul. 19th, 2005 06:56 pmI dreamed last night that I had a baby-- not in the standard way, just there was a newborn (clean, genderless, well-behaved infant) and it was mine. And I had to hold it, and I could only put it down when it was asleep, which was fine, except that every time I put it down it woke up again. It didn't help that the first time I tried to put it down in the little infant-sized crib, I discovered that someone had tidily made the bed with a miniature fitted & flat sheet, but there was no mattress underneath, so when I set the baby down it was just being supported by the wire mesh that formed the bottom of the crib. So of course it woke up, and I had to pick it up again and go find the mattress and try to carry it back and make up the crib again one-handed because of course the baby was awake and so I couldn't put it down.
All this sounds like a fairly normal odd dream, but for some reason I kept wanting to talk to people about it all day, except that after describing it once, there wasn't that much to say. So I dug the dirt out of what turned out to be former tree roots with a spoon, and threw little lumps of clay at my co-workers instead...
