thanateFirst, the miscellaneous:
*Stone-age cache of skulls with their faces smashed in, which someone thinks means they were threatening the living. (I wonder about regime change, myself-- "we will destroy the dead of your faction" or somesuch.) Someone else decided to posit that they were zombies, but you can go find that article on your own.
*An introductory article about the crazy diversity of native bees, and how if you've got a little bit of yard, you can probably help keep it. (only, the plant resource they link to doesn't seem that helpful for people outside of CA; I'd start by googling your state's native plant society if you're looking.)
*The Intergalactic Academy is giving away lots of SF books including an ARC of Starglass, which is YA set on a generation ship & sounds like it might appeal to several of you. (Also, it's the first novel contract to come out of my VP class, so yay Phoebe!)
*A lovely article on the madness of people who write to lexicographers, with side notes on lexicography and other madnesses. Love!
*How to sort lentils. Also worthy is the 4th comment down. Silliness!

heuchera found an overview video of anatomy squashing throughout pregnancy. It could stand to be a little more detailed, with better angles of rotation, but since that and a sketch from the 1700s in the wikipedia article are the only things I've seen thus far that even address the issue, good of them for trying. I appear to be at about the point where the intestines start to shove into the stomach.
...Andbatchix pointed me at this lovely regency/maternity ensemble by Aimee Major, and I have been wandering through various related things ever since. I am seriously contemplating one or another of the Austentation bonnet blanks, after my continued failure to make a bonnet for myself and then the last person I tried to swap with on craftster was supposed to make me one, but flaked. (woe and bonnet deprivation!)
I'm also debating between getting the fig leaf patterns apron-front gown (the one Aimee made) or the similar Past Patterns Lewis & Clarke era one, as it's a front-closing design instead of a drawstring and might work better for nursing... not that I can't modify either one (and at least one place says the L&C dress is also flat-fronted with all the gathering in back & sides.) Brief reviews here at the very bottom of the page. I would get both, but they're all historic pattern priced. (Though if anyone else wants to go halvsies on the cost & share one of them, do let me know!)
And that brings me to the Great Pattern Review from a San Francisco area costuming guild, which is very awesome. A bit sporadic in their coverage (as it's all based on who's sent in a review of what) but has a lot of good info on a bunch of patterns. And I am somewhat relieved to know that I am not the only one to think Reconstructing History has major directions & drafting software issues, as I feel like everyone I know personally loves them to death.
