nothing but headlines and introductions
Oct. 25th, 2017 07:48 pmI have run out of my allotment of not-headache for today, and possibly also productivity. My child began her week by sucking the ink out of a pink highlighter at school; so far as I've been able to gather part of her motivation was impressing her classmates; that's about how the rest of the week so far has gone. On the upside, I got to hold someone else's week-old baby for a quarter hour at the park due to intervention babysitting for the overstressed neighbor of one of M's classmates.
I am making extremely little headway in Clive Gamble's Timewalkers, despite fascination with the premise; it's very dense both in font and academic style and my brain is not quite up to the necessary levels of concentration at present. But I had another of those love at third paragraph experiences with the preface: (regarding the age of european exploration:) "The fact that people were almost everywhere raised no eyebrows, even when discovered on remote islands, across inhospitable deserts, and up rugged mountains."
And I said, "This. This is why SF is populated with bipedal hominid-formed aliens. We are still doing it." (#petpeeves)
