So for those of you who haven't heard the story yet, about a month ago [livejournal.com profile] troyfish called me up and said "So, Melchior is definitely getting his white scarf [highest level fencing award] this reign-- do you want to give it to him?" And I said, "What? Can I do that?" and suddenly found myself part of the conspiracy instead of just kind of hovering on the edges listening to the gossip. It was very disconcerting, really, being the more or less painfully honest person that I am, and trying to keep a project of this sort secret from someone I talked to pretty regularly who kept asking me what I was doing with my time...

In any case, the scarf was presented yesterday, so pictures can now be released: here.

The event was pretty good-- a bit cold on the ends of the day, and possibly more sunny than would have been nice, but much fun was had by all. [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf, who was taken completely by suprise, still made a perfectly respectable showing of playing his prize (whatever he may think about it.) I disappointed myself slightly by doing virtually no fencing at all, despite the excellent turn-out of people I haven't fought yet and ought to have snagged for pick-ups, but there were other things going on to worry about. Got to see a number of excellent people I don't cross paths with too often, which was good.

Unfortunately, my part of the party broke up a bit early, as [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf (who needs a new job) had to go back so he could go in to work today, and I opted to head home also, since I'd been feeling more and more bad-cold-like since friday afternoon. Today I'm pretty much offically sick, and hoping that I have not been a plague bearer to my friends. Time, I think, for more tea and another nap.

Ooh! *grin* Thanks for the pics, and I am going to be showing them off to Drea when she gets back home. The blackwork looks wonderful.

Funny how people seem to expect us to practice things before we put them on things to be worn or given out. If we did that, we wouldn't have time to do the real thing!

That looks wonderful! And feel better, because it was very lonely in the lab today.

I'm sorry-- I'm planning on rejoining the world again tomorrow. (I probably could have done it today, but I'm still out of it enough to excuse being lazy and not dealing with the snow, I think.)
