finished, sort of

So I have not in fact written the entire novel. I've got one scene that I skipped the middle of because it wasn't going well, and I couldn't figure out how not to make it a soap-opera of unpleasant revelations... perhaps I should work on trying to make that funny (or at least have one character who thinks it is) but I'm not sure if that will work either. A problem for not-today, anyhow. And the last chapter/epilogue is a list of wrap-up stuff that needs to be covered. But the plot is tied in slightly less horrifying knots than I was afraid of, and I am going to put this aside for the moment, and read my book, and if I feel too guilty when I get done, there will still be several days of November next week in which I can sort out the last chapter. If not, it's going away for a month or two until I'm ready to think about revisions with a little better perspective, and then once I've made sure everything is explained so that I can understand it, possibly other editors/readers will be allowed to get their hands on it.
And in other news, I'm going to be in Williamsburg for the next 3 weeks or so doing a phase 3! (this is very exciting-- phase three only happens after they've looked at a place twice already and there was so much interesting stuff there that they had to go back and look at it again. I've never gotten to work on one of those before.)
