Night on the Town:
(celebrating 1 year authorized in heavy raiper-- yes, my first melee fighting was only a year ago) Not too bad. Much of the fighting, in which I actually killed a few people, if probably not as many as I ought to have, and much of the confusion. The scenarios were set up so that we had other victory conditions than "kill them, don't die" and *most* of the time these weren't communicated so that any one unit actually all knew what they were doing. And we, the unit fighters, didn't ask enough questions to sort out what we didn't know ahead of time. But as it was billed as a learing experience, this wasn't necessarily bad as such, and I should write up my perspective & send it to Kynny, who's compiling the definitive text on what was done right and wrong.

Aside from that, I should have brought more food (there was a nice turkey sandwich which is still in the refrigerator that I almost turned around and just went home when I realized I'd forgotten it) as by the time lunch rolled around, I was blanking out on whether shots were actually good or not-- I'm still not at all sure if troyfish actually got my arm or just scraped by it in the second scenario, although since I didn't do anything for the rest of the fight it probably doesn't really matter. It's like those camelback posters that say "hydrate or die" only with food, too. But then there was lunch, so that was ok. And next time I say I'm going off to dinner with whatever hoard troyfish is putting together? Remind me I'm dumb, and it's going to be too much time, too many people, and by the time I get food I won't be hungry anymore...

But there were also good points-- I yielded to temptation and instead of going for the powder kegs in the scenario where I was apparently the only one left on my team who knew what and where they were, I took the oportunity to sneak up on Troy and kill him from behind. Not something that happens too often... And the for the last scenario, my side was told "go off into the woods somewhere and stay alive for half an hour." So I sat behind a nice tree and contemplated blacking my sleeves with dirt, and watched a little bit of fighting from a distance, but mostly just listened to the beginning of the rain, and watched a little yellow bird and things. It was very relaxing, and Ponte Alto as a unit lost one man the entire time. Oh, and I actually fenced ccunning, who keeps telling me he fences (and somebody even gave him a nice white scarf for it once) but who couldn't previously have proved it so far as I was concerned. :)

And unrelated to this, a question for the masses... I've agreed to go to a bridal shower (for the only friend I still occasionally keep track of who actually went to my high school) next Saturday, and am wondering what the ettiquette is on shower gifts vs wedding presents... They included a card in the invitation saying that she's registered a couple places; does this mean I ought to be getting something out of the registry for a shower gift? Since I give handmade soft and comfy wedding presents (crocheted afgans, embroidered napkings, stuff like that)... I once contemplated making something in stained glass for a wedding present, and then realized it would have too many sharp corners to feel appropriate. (not that I've started, um, thinking about what I'll be making for ARong... oops...)

I'm happy to share if I've got it.

And I understand about the mass exodus to a food source. We (Cel, Bri, Dante, Dave, and Lucia) went down to a Buffet about halfway home and ate about the same time you guys probably did. And we were an hour closer to our destination.

Thanks-- I actually had similar offers from other people, too. It's more that I need to remember to bring granola bars, or a sandwich that I can carry on my person and remember to eat between scenarios. I was just having a hard time getting moving that morning, and things like extra food suffered for it.

Troy is usually bad about feeding people - in the "actually getting offsite is a reasonable amount of time" manner. Of course, I usually forget that too, because a bunch of the people going with Troy's horde are people I want to see, but because of lack of food, I end up cranky and non-sociable :)

In my experience, shower gifts are usually a mix. Many people buy off the registry, but there are often just as many non-registry gifts. These may be aimed at the bride or the couple, generally depending on the whim of the giver, and tend to be smaller or less expensive than the wedding presents. Personally, the most useful shower gift I think I ever gave was the home depot gift card to a couple who had just bought a house (even though, yes, giving a gift card may be considered tacky; so are registries). I've also tried pretty-personal-non-registry and boring-registry. Meh. Have I mentioned recently I loathe showers? Anyway...
