thanateI don't know how much rain they got in Lorton this weekend (yes, it is all of a 20 minute drive south of here) but I know it rained here from Saturday night off and on through Monday morning. And the soils we're digging in are so dry they're half-way to white and blow up into your face from the screen even when you put the nice strong breeze at your back.
And they say that the storm last week dropped what, 10 inches of rain on Florida? And that the state is needs another three times that before they're back up to normal rainfall for the year.
There was a conversation a while back about comparing this to refueling in mid-air... I think it's more like going to one of those gas stations where they stop the pump at $50 when you've got a 70 gallon tank to fill. Need more rain. Although preferably not until we're done with this project, as it is one of those report-due-next-friday things, where we've got 300-some STPs to dig first, and no lab time or budget particularly...
me: So, we're not allowed to find anything.

garden_goth: Which of course means we'll find three sites and a dead indian.
me: If we find a dead indian that's ok, because it'll cease to be our problem. All we have to do is step back and let someone else fill out paperwork.
we've got our first site...garden_goth found a cellar in one of her shovel tests. Oh, and Mechelle found a wild turkey nest while she was laying out the line. Of course, she and Brian were the only ones who got to see the turkey.
Oh, and all the boys decided to take their shirts off, so Brian kept going on about how manly they were, and how we ladies were supposed to admire them. I gave him a worm (a poor, sad, dehydrated worm) as a token of my admiration for his manliness.
