New doll arrived today. She is large, and she doesn't have any clothes. This doesn't seem to bother her any.

I love her body sculpt. I've always looked at pictures of girl dolls and thought they looked awkward or ungainly, but in person I think this one, at least, is fabulous, pneumatic anime breasts and all. Her limbs aren't quite long enough to be spindly, and her hands are actually realistically sized in proportion to her head. Her feet are too small, but not by as much as they could be...

I wasn't so sure about her headsculpt until I put her in this wig. Now she looks like a real person... sort of seventies-style fantasy sorceress. (and I was even weak and bought the "default" one, but I don't actually like it on her. I'm reserving judgement until I mess around with it more, but so far my conclusions are that a- she needs not to have bangs, and b- Soom is totally delusional that their default wigs will actually fit their dolls, although this one is better and slightly less square than Waif's was)

So, yes, she is tall. And I haven't even put her high heel feet on yet. She needs her mold seams sanded, though; I don't know what they did, but there are pink lines along a bunch of them. It's almost as if they marked the seams they were going to sand down in pencil or something, and then never got around to doing it, because the lines aren't actually quite along the seams themselves. And they did this bizarre thing where they tried to be classy and sculpt tendon lines where her wrist joins her hand, which is all very clever, but a serious mistake, because of the way the doll arms rotate. A human will roll the hand by rolling the forearm with it, but since she has joints at elbow and wrist and the arm in between is a static piece of resin, this ends up putting what is sculpted to be the bottom of her wrist at the top of her hand. (and I'm sorry, it looks pretty funny anyway. that is likely to get sanded down.)

And then I find myself having conversations with the doll, like [livejournal.com profile] kittymaru does.

"Don't you want clothes?" I say.
She stares at me blankly. "Why would I?"
"Aren't you cold?"
"No. I don't get cold, I'm a doll." (duh...)
"Well, can't you at least look a little more modest for the picture?"
More blank stare, and a half-hearted attempt...

"Ok, look, you've got to have clothes. You're not going to be allowed out of the house without them."
She doesn't appear to care, but has so far refused to consider everything I've offered to make for her. I think she's holding out for a Jessica Rabbit dress or something.

In other news, today's word count is up to 3.5k, bringing my month total to a sad and pathetic 33.8k. But I am gaining. Tomorrow I might even actually leave the house to go as far as the coffee shop everyone keeps recommending.

hee. they're dangerous. I think I got, um, led astray by Avaren's hands with all the writing on them, not that I would do something like that with one of my dolls.

you're welcome to come to a craft day sometime and play with ours. :P
