So I am blaming
melaniesuzanne for the fact that I am apparently feuding with the Sears online order system... she posted these terribly exciting boots the other day, in a fit of boredom at work. And so it was that when I realized that I was missing a vital fashion need (ie, long brown boots to go with the dress I just made) and the mall failed to have any decent styles in less than a size too big, I said what the heck, and ordered a pair.
I just got an automated reply this morning, saying: "Unfortunately, due to either the demand for the item(s) that you ordered or the method of your payment; we were unable to process your order. Consequently, we will be canceling your order for the item(s) listed below and refunding your purchase."
So, they're crediting the amount back to my card (ie, obviously the credit card worked...) and I just went back to their site and ordered exactly the same thing, which still claims to be available in my size. And there's at least some evidence that their automated ordering system does know what the inventory is supposed to be. They've now sent a second confirmation e-mail. If they cancel that also, I'm going to call and complain.
Of course... if I do ever get these boots, and they actually fit, and don't have 4+ inch heels (which I swear they ought to say in the product description...) that I can't walk in at all... I'm planning on wearing them, with glamorous swirly dress, to the URS company formal. Um-- designer is formal, right? And Steampunk goes well with archaeology. Ahem.
In other news, we have vole links!
Vole clock! an overview of prehistoric dating by analysis of wear patterns on different species of vole teeth. This is way cool. I kind of want to send the guy an e-mail saying that while I am not passionate about voles, I think this is fascinating and could he recommend further amateur reading.
Buy a barn owl pellet and examine your own vole teeth. And the rest of the skeleton...
And on an unrelated note, I've just finished (the beading part of...) my first piece of bead embroidery. It's ultimately, I hope soon, going to become a pin for my cousin. More things may occur at a later time. Beading seems to be one of those things where you say "oh, I've been working on this for an hour or two, and it's starting to look kind of interesting, but my head hurts so I should put it down for a while" and then the next thing you know it's three in the morning and you have a splitting headache and you're so close to finishing it's silly to put it down...

But now, I'd better go see how Jameson's doing in the arena, where I left him last night.

Date: 2008-01-08 05:00 am (UTC)& I'm seriously thinking that Owl pellets could be the twelfth night gift of choice next year. The interwebs, they are awesome.

Date: 2008-01-08 03:29 pm (UTC)On the boots, you may want to look at the brand and style (if they have posted it, which sometimes they don't) and do a Google search for them. Hopefully, some other outfit will have it.
