I keep telling people about this but for some reason never thought to look it up online...

On an unrelated note... the problem with power tool tasks around here is that I'll say, "How would I do this?" and my father will wander down to the basement with me trailing after like a ten year old, and he'll go through a long complicated mental process of working out what the best tools and methods are for the project (admittedly I often do this when sewing things...) while I stand around (in this case getting more and more nervous...) until it all gets sorted out and I missed half of what the sorting process was and have spent some longish period of time watching someone else sort out a project. Admittedly this time didn't turn out too badly, but it's still an awkward process.

Anyway, doll shoulders went from this:

with the intervention of a custom-ground drill bit (amazingly hand-ground to be almost completely even on both sides, which is most likely pure luck)

To this:

Wing sockets! (ok, I can stop being nervous now...)

I'm *hoping* to have at least one pair at Dollectable, so you might get to see something in person.

Now THAT's exciting!!! Still doing what I think you're doing?

Um... maybe? What do you think I'm doing? ;)

Have you got any recommendations on gloss, by the way? I got a spray on thing, which is totally failing to produce consistently glossy results, and then started peeling. Very disappointing.

I was going to answer your e-mail... at 1am, but was subsequently sidetracked painting on Martel. Oops.

I don't have any spray-on types of glossy things, but when I need it, I have the Golden Acrylic Gel Medium stuff that I water down and use. Ya know, eyelids, lips, fingernails, etc.

And yes, I think A does have a Baha. If it's a cat-doll, she's probably got it.

that happens. I am not being nearly as useful about getting back to the people I want to stay with in SF as I should be...

Paint on should be fine, actually, since it's not for too many parts; I got the spray stuff I did because it's supposed to be UV resistant, but I think if I start over, spray a light coat or two of it, and then paint on real gloss, that should work just fine. (why doesn't everything come labeled for how well it'll work for the use I'm trying to put it to in my current temp/humidity conditions? I mean, really. How inconsiderate of them...)

Thanks. :)

I'm a total weirdo. I spray in the garage or on the porch regardless of summer heat and humidity. I've only had issues ever in winter cold and wet. And those were sticking issues, not clouding issues.

I laughed at the bottle for saying that it should only be sprayed in good ventilation and low humidity at 70 degrees. But the fact remains that it didn't work out particularly-- not so much clouding per se as just going on unevenly enough to spoil the gloss-- which could be due to weather, or any one of a number of other things.

But most of him isn't going to be gloss, and the brass stuff works absolutely beautifully, at least.
