I dreamed something complex involving wandering through castles and camping and things with some kind of historical adventure feel to it. And then I dreamed about making stir fry.

Last night I did cook-- mesoamerican soup! with squash and many many kinds of beans in it. (er, mesoamerican staple diet used to be corn squash & beans, which if grown together in the same plot of land keep the soil fairly happy, provide a pretty good yield for the amount of space taken up, and give you a basic balanced diet. Or so I am told.) A few years back, one of my cousins sent my mother a couple of multi-bean soup mixes for Christmas of the sort that say "Thirteen bean soup" and you read the ingredients and can't tell what they count as a bean, since you can either identify ten or fifteen, depending on whether you double-count the things that are listed twice. So she went out and got all the kinds of dried beans she could find genuinely labeled single-type packages (except for soy, which my grandmother is allergic to) and now we have about 17-bean soup mix. Sadly, however, I keep forgetting that even after soaking the things all day, I still need to let them cook for about half an hour before adding the carrots and celery, followed by whatever else I want put in.

Today I am being frustrated by my frock coat pattern, which is sad, as I would like to regard it with unqualified approval. And it's just little things-- a couple of pattern pieces that say "cut 2" when they mean "cut 4", having to re-align the pocket so as not to have it at knee level, the fact that the shoulder seam is 1.5" longer in the back than the front... I e-mailed the creator about that, and got a very prompt response telling me it's a computer grading error and to go with the neckline edge and readjust the armhole as necessary. Which is great, good customer service... but now the sleeve and the armhole don't align properly. Which might be my fault for messing with the sizing slightly (by cutting less seam allowance b/c I'm serging this version) and I should go on and work on the other one and see if it still has the same problem. But I was hoping to have the edges of the other one finished off so they'd stop dropping little velveteen bits all over my world. Bah.

And ultimately, I am just slightly cross because other people (ok, [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf might be the only one who actually does this, but it feels like "everyone") keep assuming that because I'm not working on friday, I can spend various bits of my day paying attention to them instead of writing, which is my stated purpose for not going in to work. And then I turn around and do exactly the same thing.

I want a frock coat.

However, I do not envy the velveteen bits. I remember creating my doublet. It was a storm of black cotton that came whirling through and took multiple vacuums to clear away again. O_o

Happy Friday!

You are welcome to borrow the pattern if you'd like. (It's really all minor irritating things, and by the time I'm done with this set, I'll know exactly what they all are...) It would fit you better than me anyway, since the flared bit is right *below* my hip, being designed for men & all.

Thanks.
