Sep. 12th, 2011 11:38 amThey are putting up shingles (on the back) and tar paper (on the front) as I type! After three weeks and two hurricanes since the old roof & the back siding came off, this is pretty darn exciting.
Unfortunately, it turns out that the *other* gourd plant that was growing up the front fence got kicked in by somebody-- possibly the guys who delivered the shingles & siding on Friday. All the rain has made the stem bases particularly unhappy, although this one actually reaches the ground, both at the broken base and on two side branches, so there's a slight chance that it'll mange to re-root and save a little something. Phoey.
The basement is mostly stabilized, and what I should be doing this morning is writing, now that I've plundered wikipedia for Marie de France plot summaries and have a vague idea of where I'm going next. Instead, I've done laundry, begun cleaning off my desk (also very useful!) and drooled over ikea cabinets. I want something glass-fronted to house my dolls, both the resins and the small assortment of ethnic dolls that I put away in boxes a little over a decade ago so that they wouldn't get dusty while no one was looking at them. So far, I'm leaning towards this, and trying to figure out how I could possibly justify getting the mini version as well... pint glasses, perhaps? Anyway, I'd want a look at the adjustment possibilities for the shelves before buying it, as two long intervals and a bunch of short ones are probably what I'll need. And then of course there's this lovely thing, which is entirely not useful for dolls, but would make a fantastic fernery & curio cabinet for rocks & teacups & things. But it is probably best not to get too carried away.
