seven years of habit & 530 words

I still hadn't decided if I was going to NaNo this year, and then I spent lunch starting to write out what needed to come together in the last book. Apparently seven years of writing a novel in November makes a sustainable habit. In any case, I've a little bit of beginning for each of three viewpoint characters (Mara got added mid-planning-session, so that it's not just the boys who save the world) and am having the usual cravings for sleep or computer games or tangentially related books to go reread. Also the princess Theo is marrying is *not* from Dacia, as that's neither my universe nor particularly related to what I think Dinestra (where she is from-- though the name is still subject to change) is actually like. We'll see how this goes. With luck, I will at least sort out where the end of this thing is, and be able to come back and turn it all into a Real Thing later on. Whatever that turns out to be, as I stray farther and farther outside YA as a potential market category.

PSA for those who are voting next week:

Please look at what is going to be on your ballot ahead of time, if you haven't already done so. (MD sends out nice little sample ballot packets to registered voters, VA makes you look it up for yourself.) In any case, besides the presidential election, I've got about seven different sets of people to vote for (or confirm/deny, in the case of the Board of Education), seven statewide ballot questions, and *fifteen* (I kid you not, they are A through O) ballot questions for my county. This is the longest ballot I've ever seen, so yours may not be so bad, but other places will be using the big-election voter turn-out to try to get stuff done, too. You can, of course, always choose not to vote on anything you don't care about or haven't researched, but don't be that person who's reading these things for the first time in the voting booth. Just saying.

This has been my responsible adult moment for the week; now I shall go back to rambling about writing or fabric or babies and things.
