There is doll!
Sep. 17th, 2008 10:12 pmSo, question for those who have successfully managed to sand doll seams-- what grit sandpaper do you use? I tried a couple things on Waif when I first got him, and wasn't happy with the results and never figured out how to do it properly. But there are a couple very in-need-of-sanding bits on Beryl. (silly Soom, leaving little pink casting lines on their dolls...)
They have also changed their packaging, and instead of friendly (if slightly funny-smelling) gray foam, she came stuffed into impenetrable bubble-pack. I think I could have thrown this thing across the room and not damaged her, which is good, but it took me a moment to figure out that undoing the tape across the bottom was how to get in:

...there was also a picture of "her little sheepy foot is as BIG AS HER HEAD!" but the camera took it with flash and then died again, so I'll need to take another one later. And I am close to falling asleep typing, and there are seams that need sanding, so I think she will stay human for tonight, and I will do things with horns and hooves and wigs and saying nice things about
the_impassive on DOA tomorrow.
Also, I will have to do comparison shots of her vs Lady before disassembling her, because I now have two sizes/colors of EXACTLY THE SAME DOLL. Proportions, hand positions, everything. It's rather weird.

Date: 2008-09-18 03:09 am (UTC)I use 250 grit, then 360, then 400 or 600- depends on how anal I feel like being. I don't sand seams often. If you do it in the sink with wet sanding it goes faster and comes out smoother. And you probably know but sand in a circular motion, not back and forth. :3

Date: 2008-09-18 12:05 pm (UTC)Thanks! I think I used up most of my lifetime desire to sand things in about 7th grade when I spent 4 weeks sanding down a bank for shop class, but seams on dolls bother me. I shall explore the basement for what we've got in the way of wet-dry sandpaper.

Date: 2008-09-18 11:59 am (UTC)Lady is a mecha angel girl, so I've now got mecha angel and super gem bodies, which I could tell were virtually the same from their site pictures, but hadn't quite realized the full scope of it before getting Beryl out of her super-packed sleeve and saying, "Wait, I've seen this doll before!" Sadly, I do not have extra satyr parts for Lady, although I'm vaguely curious how close the Sard legs would come to fitting her. I mean, she is supposed to be a shape-shifter and all...

Shadow didn't have red lines, but I keep hearing about it. Hrm...
And GODS, do I wish the mechaangel boy body were this only larger. Srsly.

Date: 2008-09-18 11:52 am (UTC)She's actually only got one or two bits of the pink mold stuff that I noticed (Lady is much worse, but they blend in better with the normal skin, and since I never get around to sanding anyone, this is probably a good thing) but there's also some slight dark blue staining on her hands which irritates me slightly. Oh well-- it's not as if I wasn't contemplating mud splattering her and things...
