She has turned into a fiery maenad-creature who doesn't think she needs clothing either. Oh yeah? What're you looking at? Just because I have to stick my elbow in my ear to put my hands on my hips doesn't make me funny, and I'll punch anyone who thinks it does, d'ya hear?

I apologize for the less than stellar photography, but here are the two ladies side by side. Soom Mecha Angel in normal skin (Lady) and Soom Super Gem in cream white (Beryl/wild creature). The super gem body is actually a bit more exaggerated-- larger breasts, slimmer torso joint, although I think this is to bring her into line with the other similarly sized dolls so that she can share clothing. The limb proportions (with below the knee/elbow notably longer than above it), lines of body texture, neck, naval, and hand and foot sculpts are all very nearly identical.

Detail of hands; the angles are slightly different, but perhaps you can see better what I'm talking about.

Sanded, sueded, reassembled, and adorned with temporary eyes (Soom sent me these as a "free gift" when I got Lady. They're a bit odd-- very blocky/pixelated, but they work for the moment.) Of course, put them in and she starts glaring at you.

...and hair...

Lady: Hello, little sister. I'm sorry to break it to you, but I'm afraid they make us wear clothes around here.

...And I came back from fencing to find a fox standing in the middle of the driveway. Yay wild things!

Date: 2008-09-19 03:14 am (UTC)I had no idea that Mecha Angels were so FUCKING GINORMOUS WHAT THE FUCK. ?! How tall IS she? Holy crap.
Aw, fencing and foxes! I fenced when I was a teenager and really, really loved it (and was very good, too.) When I went to college I tried to start a fencing team, and not only did I fail, my gear bag got stolen (and, I assume, fenced.) That was about it for my fencing career. :(

Date: 2008-09-19 03:30 am (UTC)I fenced in high school for a couple years, went to college and kept my armor bag in the closet for another two years, then took fencing again as a semester student-taught course, joined the team for all of one tournament, and decided I'd rather fix weapons than fence, and gave up again after college. And then four years later, I ended up getting into SCA-style fencing, which is done in the round with the option of off-hand weapons and various kinds of group fights, and this works out much better for me. My trouble with strip fencing was that I'd get out there and then kind of stare at the other person and wonder what to do next.

Date: 2008-09-19 03:47 am (UTC)Having examined the wig construction and seen how one does long mohair wigs (where did you find it, anyway?) I might make her something with some real sheep fleece in more natural colors, and give the dark wig back to the obitsu head (who might one day be attached to a harpy, if I ever sculpt one.) But we'll have to see.

Date: 2008-09-19 03:43 am (UTC)Ya know, though, when you have them side by side like that, Lady seems significantly more proportionate to me. I think what bothers me most about the SOOM dolls is that the elbows aren't at the waist where they ought to be.
And I wonder if SOOM has figured this out yet. I mean, I'm sure they have, but still...

Date: 2008-09-19 03:57 am (UTC)Lady isn't *horribly* badly proportioned; it's mainly just the thing with the limbs being on backwards. She's very elongated, but within the realm of normal stylization. The problem is just when you start trying to pose the arms and they don't angle right because the elbow is off. And then the super gem body is like a caricature of the larger one. Actually, one of the reasons I don't have a normal girl doll is that I kept looking at 60 cm girl bodies and not liking the stylization. Fortunately, with a strange-sheep-maenad creature, it works much better.
