I have a line or two of some mournful pop song stuck in my head, only I can't quite remember enough of it to do a lyrics search and figure out what it is. For all I know, it may be lurking in my i-tunes somewhere. Time to turn on something else, I guess.

And I have far too many browser windows open:

The Lady's Stratagem (to add to the list of terribly expensive books I ought to make a real list of and then purchase at measured intervals)

gorgeous little rubber stamps

anticraft deadlines and themes-- I should totally submit something! Publicity! ...does an augury goat sound properly meditative?

shrink-plastic rings

AND GO LOOK AT THIS ONE! 'cause it's cute.

and if this actually appeared to fit anyone (they did such a bad job on the model, and again the sleeves are set wrong...) it would also be under consideration for wedding dresses. Not that I'd ever have another occasion to wear it.

Ok, back to working on things that might be useful.

That dress (the last link) needs a bustle underneath to look right.... It's pretty, it just could actually fit the model :-P

Yeah. I don't actually mind the lack of bustle so much, but the stretch marks across the sleeve when she raises her arms, and the total lack of fit (and total lack of sizing options that might make it fit a buyer...) is a bit much. For about thirty seconds I considered buying one and altering it myself, but then I got over it.

I *LOVE* that cross stitch.
Think I need it!

You know the only reason I would want to get married (I have horrible taste in the males) is as an excuse to wear a regency gown. Just saying, that's what *I* would be wearing. That gown there has too much complication to it for my tastes.

I always thought I'd want some kind of exciting ball gown, only I find that now I actually want to have something I'll wear again. And now I'm looking at more recent historical things, and being slightly frustrated because everything I see that says "oh, I could wear that" to me would require me to wear my hair up. And I was totally just going to let it down for once.

You need to find some local reenactors or something who do an appropriate period for you to lay in a stock of regency-style dresses. ;) Don't you have some kind of war of 1812 forts going on up there or something?

love the fern...

We still need to make a dress date, yes?

It is a problem that Girls+formal seems to default to updo, but then a lot of modern formalwear is horrible too (as i'm sure you may be noticing).

we do! I was totally going to look in the phone book and find bridal shops, now that I'm done nano-ing.

My problem is that I'm not so SCA-trained that I can't stand medieval and flowing tresses (or maybe that would be the influence of romantic paintings?) but victorian/edwardian would need me to learn how to do that thing where you make your hair stick out all poofy in the way that actually looks good, rather than the over-teased scary sort of thing. Or pay someone who already knows, I guess.

You could go with the Pre-Raphaelite version of medieval style - those women never put their hair up.

Okay. give me a (e-mail?) poke when you think you know where you want to go. In inconvenient but related news, [livejournal.com profile] platypusgirl's store in Richmond is having the "get these things out of the store" ridiculous sale. If i'd been smart i would have just kidnapped you for the soap weekend and we could have stopped by. Plan is still not to necessarily buy things (yes?), but [livejournal.com profile] platypusgirl would have been able to advise. oh well.

One of the things on my list of things to take lessons in is how to do hair sculpture with real hair attached to a head. sadly i have not had any luck finding them. let me know if you find resources and we could have a "play with long hair" gather or something.
