a doll by any other name
Feb. 26th, 2009 08:19 pmAfter drooling over that anotherspace cinderella dress for months now, I finally got around to making something similar for myself. (because, um, I *will not* allow my price points to slide so far that I spend $75 on an outfit for a doll, only half of which I actually want anyway. There's also an essay on financial responsibility lurking in the back of my head.) My design is clearly far superior, as it has both pockets and buttons. There's also a ruffle to go on the outer dress that I haven't attached yet; I'm still trying to decide how I want to sew it on. And she will also need bloomers, but I have to dig out the proper color of muslin for that first.

Which brings us to the problem of the doll with three heads.

I seem to have a thing about square-edged eyes...
Anyway, I've been collecting this doll; she's got a working title of Princess Languidere (who, for those of you who missed the original Oz books, had thirty heads and did not, as Mombe did in the Return to Oz movie, have to steal them from anyone first.) At present, she's only got three, which happened due to a strange convergence of the stars (or maybe it's that new comet?) and while I love all these pieces individually, I'm having trouble with the fact that NONE OF THEM MATCH. Gr. Ok, I have sealant, I have pastels (they're in storage, which has gotten nearly impossible to get to due to roadwork between here and there, but still, they exist) and I can theoretically fix this. And then I will indulge my tastes for extremely strange dolls. Or move on and, um, plan my wedding...
Meanwhile, I've been having fun with the eyeless wigless doll. (Unlike the face-ups the other two came with, this one is kind of cute, so I haven't wiped it off yet.)

The lawn has kindly provided doll-sized flowers. And my mother doesn't want them taking over any more, so she encourages picking them. (If anyone local wants snowdrops, we've got plenty to share!)

Date: 2009-02-27 04:12 am (UTC)I love the Cinderella dress!
Which part of the Another Space dress did you want? I might be open to a *trade* in return/partial return for something you could make. Let me know :)
Actually, I really would like to commission you anyway, if you have time (the need for Frock coat getting pressing now Snape is finally getting a body).

Time? What's that? I'm making doll clothes because I don't want to deal with making my wedding dress. ;) But if there were an actual commission involved, you should e-mail me with measurements and things, and I'd promise to actually get to it.
