In between the changing of names, driving to distant places, remembering to feed myself (and
grauwulf, once or twice a day) I have been unpacking books. (What's important, really?) And my fiction books were previously shelved, and subsequently boxed, in a whole bunch of mental divisions which I am slowly paring down to paperback vs hardback (due to size considerations-- trade paperbacks go on the taller shelves, while mini hardbacks do not). It leads to some odd juxtapositions; the shelf directly across from me contains a run of about half Patricia McKillip's works, followed by The Hero & the Crown/The Blue Sword, Lonesome Dove, The Source (my only Michener), books 3 & 4 of Anne of Green Gables (since I have that odd hardcover collection with books 1, 2, & 5 in it), an odd Andre Norton book, and The Scarlet Pimpernel. So far I've filled about four of the six shelves designated for paperbacks, and more than enough for another one got pulled out and stacked on top of the shelf on the grounds that I haven't actually read them yet. And
grauwulf hasn't even dug up the box(es) with his paperbacks in them...
I vaguely regret breaking up my nebulous divisions (things like "required childhood reading" including the Prydain Chronicles, Tolkien's big 4, the Green Knowe books, Beatrice Potter, Harold & the Purple Crayon, The Dark is Rising-- and oddly enough, the Earthsea books, which I haven't actually read) in the same kind of way that I vaguely regret giving up legal claim to my middle name, but those will be easier to re-establish later on if I want to do so.
And then for some reason I still haven't even opened the two boxes labeled "Pratchett" and "Heyer" respectively; I'm not entirely sure why those two get their own shelves, as I have just as much Bujold or Diana Wynne Jones, both of which also span large amounts of space on both paperback & hardback shelves, but apparently don't need to be separated out. Odd.
Of course, there's also the problem that the shelf I've been putting hardbacks on is half-buried behind the couch... This may need some re-thinking.
