Still juggling car insurance quotes and without a new driver's license, but I have located my car title, and gotten a library card (ok, which will be mailed to me, as I don't have the MD license yet). Step one of communal banking has also been sorted out. On the home front, I've hung up a bunch of pictures (with various woes relating to wall anchors and drill bits), my necklace racks, and a key hanger my aunt and uncle gave us at the wedding, in hopes of preventing having to run about looking for [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf's keys as we did this morning. I did not nail through any cables or anything. And we have classy new windows scheduled to go in by the end of the month, which is nearly a third of the time they originally estimated we'd have to wait.

Click for musical interlude! (go on, really-- it's cute & funny.)

Most of the poison ivy is shriveling up and dying as requested, although there are a few other bits that hid from the first two rounds of weed killer. I spread some (probably evil & invasive) shade-tolerant grass seed in the back yard, which the blue jays are now eating, so we'll see if any of it survives to sprout... my mother has offered to seek out some nice native plants to mix in with the daffodils so that we have something interesting looking for more of the year, and I hope to put in something groundcovery in the bare spots along the fence line. Which brings us to link #2, for those of you who have ground with plants in: an easy overview on why you should plant native if you want to continue to have birds & things with useful resource links and starter lists of plant suggestions.

Other than that, I continue shelving books and moving things from place to place and contemplate getting a copy of Moonwise since the library system doesn't have it. Also, [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf is a genius (his phrasing-- also it has stopped raining temporarily, without which genius would not have been enough) and we have a utility sink and there is no longer a nasty puddle of murky water in the corner of the basement. Yay!

I'm a big fan of non-invasive, native plant species. Cuts down on water usage and maintenance. Have you thought about Virginia Bluebells in your shaded area? I've been contemplating planting some under our holly tree (we have @4' clear to lowest branch). They're pretty and native, and the leaves spread nicely to cover bare spots.

I may actually put in some bluebells in the garden bed that's mostly crocus and other early bulbs, but I think that's one of the things my mother has lots of to share from her yard, so I'm not worrying about it yet. If you were going to be around this weekend I'd tell you to go to the VA native plant society plant sale, but it sounds like you've got better things to do.

It sounds like fun, but as you know, there are other plans involving the social calander for the Small Person :-) I'll keep an eye out for their next sale, however - thanks for letting me know about it, so I can bookmark their website.
