thanateReading the beginning of Moonwise, which is in part an ode to the sprawling English country manor (o Secret Garden, how you have shaped my brain...) and the 18th/19th century curio cabinet. Quite promising so far, although it also promises to be a slow read. I am proud of my new county library system, however; they do not have a copy of Moonwise, but they have got the new sequel on order.
Meanwhile, there is still road construction, appallingly loud, during the week; I am making plans to flee on Monday in hopes of retaining sanity and some bit of productivity. I shall most likely be taking my sewing machine for repairs, and perhaps heading down to return Va library books and see what my mother has picked up for me at the native plant sale. At present, we have one rose blooming and several more buds, and all-natural aphid killer with which to spray a few small patches of invaders. It seems that they take badly to sesame oil.
Books continue to populate the shelves (and pictures the walls, and there's now a full-length mirror up as well, with an old ViOliVia banner still taped to it) and I have rediscovered my Oxford Classical Dictionary, which though nearly useless in my everyday life, still makes me happy.![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
grauwulf is re-wiring the downstairs, with occasional interludes of asking me to watch him trace out the wires to make sure they're really as absurdly done as he thinks they are; there is now an outlet below my desk, but it's not yet hooked up to the box. In the mean time, the lovely art deco globe-bearing lady on the bottom newel post gets to stand in as my desk lamp.
I have re-discovered my shoulder-length brown velvet gloves, and wish I had an occasion for them, taken doll photos (still on the camera) with a million props and the fantastically useless inside of our linen closet, and am slowly extending my organizational puttering to the upstairs as well as down. It's practically beginning to look as if people live here.
