Loqui-cat (it's short for Loquacious) is convinced that I am an evil step-owner. I clip his claws and don't let him out to chase the birds. Of course, being a cat, he also likes me just fine when I'm playing with him or giving him food, and now he has stolen my chair.

Yesterday my parents came up and brought me clean sheets, old mail, and plants. Somehow they had not sorted out that we *still* haven't seen any of the wedding pictures, so they didn't bring those, but there should be CDs in the mail shortly. At any rate, my father spent the whole day watching the street construction (which was in noisy phase yesterday; they've migrated somewhere else today) while my mother and I pulled up barberry and japanese honeysuckle and english ivy, and the occasional mulberry tree trying to take root in the foundation, and put in various other things that seem like much better choices. I have now got three kinds of ferns (New York, Lady, & Cinnamon), a jack in the pulpit, wild ginger, goldenrod, black-eyed susans, and a couple other meadow plants I've forgotten the names of. The sun plants went in, already slightly wilty after being dug up in the morning, in full mid-afternoon sun and looked not long for the world, but even the most pitiful one had perked up a bit by this morning. I think I'll keep the giant wheelbarrow-full of weeds out to give them a little more shade for the next couple days, but then it's supposed to rain again and they should settle in again.

At any rate, by evening I was exhausted, having not done heavy work in the sun in some time, and took a few hours to sit down and read more book; I'm still only about 50 pages into Moonwise, as the language is very dense (in a good way) and when my brain started to wander off and get distracted, I got up to try to play the version of "Lord Gregory" that I have, only to discover that the CD I have it on has never gotten into this version of itunes. This led me to a search for the band Stonecircle, whose music widgit I've been listening to since, and this morning I pulled my CD rack out of the trailer and brought it into the house. Of course, the CD I want isn't actually in its case, so now I'll have to find my CD binder as well, but so it goes. In the process of untaping the shelves, I discovered my senior year folklore project, for which I recorded people's retellings of Beauty & the Beast and Promethius on audio tapes, and a mysterious tape labeled "Jackson: For Everyman" in black (from before the thing came into my hands) and over the top in pale purple gel pen I wrote: "WE NEED A BLOOD SACRIFICE". I'm not quite sure if it's safe to play that and see what it is... (the other side is much more innocuously labeled "TEST TAPE")

The baby mourning doves have flown. I actually saw them on the way out, fleeing the barking of the neighbor's dog (which is smaller than Loqui.)

1. You STILL haven't seen the photos?!? (We will ignore the fact that I still haven't developed negatives)
2. Yay for removing invasives
3. You may want to never listen to a tape that needs a blood sacrifice. Ever.

Janna went and got a temp job for a week or two after the wedding & was all busy, and so my father only got his camera back recently, and for some reason he thought we already had the photos. Eventually we'll get them...

I'm fairly sure the tape *was* the blood sacrifice. The dangerous part is what it was sacrificed to.
