and a cat:

The farmer's market down the road appears to price pumpkins for their attractiveness, rather than their food value, which in the middle of September seems a bit odd of them. I picked up a nice large one for $3 the other day because it had lost nearly all of its stem, and just cooked it up this afternoon. I have now got 13-1/2 cups of puree in the freezer (the next container I grabbed after I went through the dozen one-cup sized things I had to buy was larger...), about two more in the refrigerator to make a double batch of bread when the lemon bread gets finished, and
grauwulf and I had a couple small pieces right out of the oven with a little cinnamon sugar sprinkled on them. And the last pound of it I'm still coaxing into candied state for kaddo bourani. At a 1/6 recipe, I didn't have too much trouble with the oil (in fact, I added a little more, and had to roll the pieces about in the pan to cover them properly) but I very much second the bit about the sugar. There is appallingly much, but it does seem to come out worth it.
Now we'll have to see if
grauwulf's love of pumpkin and meat will triumph over his dislike of yogurt-based sauces.
