I am waiting for various things to arrive at their destinations (some with more impatience than others), contemplating the famous portrait of Rebecca Rolfe (whom you have heard of by her childhood nickname, Pocahontas) and the character of Ivan Churney for obscure reasons which may become clear later, and stalling on re-sorting, pruning, and probably having to combine pictures for the tutorial I'm supposed to be posting. Oh, and trying to figure out where to put the giant pair of bull horns, as for some reason [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf objects to having them live on the dining room table.

Some time ago, I made a comment to [livejournal.com profile] jazzfish, asking about interest in starting a writer's workshop semi-locally. He and a friend of his were both highly in favor of the prospect, which got as far as exchanging an e-mail in which we all agreed that about 6 to 8 people would be the ideal size, and there were only three of us. This seems, thus far, to have stymied us, although it is also possible that a) the others are as lazy as I am about these things, or b) having suggested it, this is my problem to solve.

I have been vaguely missing college lately; not so much the classes and the school itself (though I do keep meaning to go learn things at the community college at some point), and definitely not the being "sweet and twenty," (parts of which were nice, but I'll take the tenuous emotional stability gained in that last decade, thank you,) but the part about living somewhere that had friends and activities and a variety of nice public spaces all within walking distance. I miss having places to walk to, and having friends close enough to meet for dinner or to spend an hour with without having to schedule in advance and drive all over the world to get there.

Probably, if I want that kind of cameraderie back, I should reconsider moving to San Francisco, or come up with the mythical better way to network for weird but intelligent friends who are actually this far north.

For some reason that last bit made me laugh. If only because I know all of ONE person in San Francisco. Really.

I'd like my friends closer, too.

I almost added "San Francisco is the new Boston," but I figured I had enough parenthetical comments already. When I first graduated from college, there were several years where I five or six of my friends from school were in the Boston area. Eventually they all drifted away again, but now I know three people I went to college with (and the wife & daughter of one of them), the twin sister of another college friend and her roommate, and my aunt & uncle in close in San Francisco suburbs, and my brother and my best friend from high school are about an hour south of the city.
