posting begets more posting.
Sep. 27th, 2009 07:55 pmI have goals for tomorrow. I've been keeping up with my etsy posting, but not my word count, (currently 3422/10,000) so I suppose it is a good thing that I deliberately picked a goal I know I can do entirely in a weekend, if necessary. Hoping to manage about 5k tomorrow, but we shall see.
Finally finished the tutorial I was avoiding (having to somehow turn 30 pictures into a not-far-too-long post takes it out of one...) and it is here, and it is far more "country" than I was expecting (I know, anyone else could have seen that coming...) but still fairly cool. Although I'm also considering giving it away again, since it's just on the long side for me, and I've already got the apron Emma gave me as a wedding present, which is also lovely and possibly more practical. We shall see.
And my first and favoritest ball joint doll that's not my own has been disassembled by his owner and is being partially sold off. I was trying to explain this to
grauwulf, who is still looking at me funny for other doll-related reasons, and the best I could come up with is that it's like seeing your favorite coffee shop in a place you don't live anymore go out of business-- it's not something that directly affects your life, or that you can or really want to do anything about, but it's just terribly sad. He still looked at me funny. Probably, I should have told him it was like going back to Augusta and finding out they'd closed Delilah's.
Meanwhile, aside from getting lost in Baltimore with
grauwulf's car full of our old windows on the way to the Re-Store, and various other little similar things, I picked up a duplicate to the little lamp I got to do proper doll photo lighting (so, in theory, I ought to be able to take better pictures, with two light sources... but do I? Ha!) from the neighbors' yard sale, and made pants for the wrong doll. (Lady has been waiting patiently for a slightly later period version of these, complete with lace, for some time now...)

And what is not to love about a doll you can plop down, shove about a little, and leave sitting like this all evening?

Slightly better picture of the slops. (Yes, I handmade doll-sized buttons. At least this time I had the sense to do the buttonholes on the machine. He's got two cuff buttons per leg, too, which he's kneeling on in this picture.) Please excuse the craft room mess in the background. He... probably has a name, but I'm not going to tell you what it is yet.
grauwulf was talking about making them an SCA encampment, complete with pavilion and furniture. And then, of course, there would be armor. Apparently Miss Beryl is a heavy fighter, the newcomer is a fencer, Waif and Flopsy are trying their hands at youth combat, and Lady gets a marshall tabard. Puck, of course, will be assigned to a siege engine, possibly assisted by the Glass Cat, who is liable to start donating her body parts when they run out of ammo.

Date: 2009-09-28 01:22 am (UTC)I looooove my book, mang. I printed some photos last night and glued them in & bought some random stuff to use to stick quotes in it. It's not a scrapbook, more a crapbook, and I love it to death.
What doll? I know exactly what you mean about a beloved coffee shop going out of business, great emotional analogy, dead-on.

Avaren. Which is funny, because I don't even really like the round-faced slitty eyed luts boys very much stylistically. But watching his customization process (and those hands!) was probably what got me into bjds.

Date: 2009-09-28 01:51 am (UTC)There are a couple of dolls that, if they ever got parted out or went up for sale, I'd probably either cry (at not being able to afford them) or launch myself at them with a frenzy. It's funny how attached we can get to other folks' dolls, or how much influence they've had.

Date: 2009-09-28 03:55 am (UTC)New pants look awesome, btw.
BTW also -- tell me if you can get to this (http://blogs.umass.edu/history394mh-annat/) :)
I don't think I can find a way for you to post :( (Need to have a school ID, which is irritating)... anyway, there's various weird and random crap there on monstery themes

Date: 2009-09-28 12:16 pm (UTC)Wait, you get to blog your classes? I have missed so much in new course technology. Cool! (and, aww cute little minotaur! He looks kind of like one of those large Ipplehouse boys... maybe Pasiphae is irritated because he won't pose properly?)

I don't blog most of my classes, but I figured it was nice to have this one online, because it's fun stuff ... the little monsters aren't participating in the blog much... oh well. (It's a lot more fun than using blackboard to post class materials and this way I can justify some web surfing as work).
