State(ments) of the thanate:
Jan. 8th, 2010 04:58 pmI've had an off and on dull headache since Wednesday afternoon, which is rather throwing a rock through any plans of productivity I might otherwise have had. I've succeeded in taking down the Christmas tree and boxing up all but one of the ornaments (and given that we gathered a bunch more from other ends of the house once the tree went up, that's not too bad) but not taken down the outside lights yet. I was going to do that today, but then it snowed on them. Phoey.
I've also begun but not finished a great many things: new chapter & short story, finishing a dress I was thinking of wearing to
grauwulf's company party tomorrow evening, trying to teach myself to use the wii controller without flailing wildly about the screen-- although I've discovered that the combat system in Despereaux actually involves flailing. I'm also working on knitting a doll sweater (in between drooling over things like mouse circus and harvest mouse patterns, and some things out of knitty...) although where Tisquantum would have acquired an aran style sweater is left as an exercise for the reader. (Oddly, I have got a vaguely probable theory, but that's beside the point.) I have a sneaking suspicion that I shall manage to run out of yarn part-way through the second sleeve, and then I will have to scrounge up a Galena wing for him and go re-read The Seventh Swan. Actually, in that hypothetical world in which I would have all the space & money I desired, I'd want one for Waif.
I've tossed over a couple of the books on my to-read list on the grounds that if I'm not sufficiently entertained by the first twenty or so pages, they're not worth my time and gone on to the Compleat Enchanter collection, which is pretty entertaining, and on the whole less conceptually irritating than some of the 1950s stereotypes we're seeing in the Disney Zorro (squee!!!) collections that
grauwulf got me for Christmas. Now of course I'm making him watch them all with me. He hasn't rebelled yet...
Next Week: Zorro rides into danger! Thrill with excitement as he trades whiplash for whiplash with the evil Comandante...
