What I have been Up To
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:48 pmDoes not include writing in LJ particularly much.
The renovations in the garden beds outside the aquarium are complete, and there's a nice little article in the Baltimore Sun about them. Not all of the text is quite accurate-- the renovation had to be done because the original contractors severely messed up the drainage and soil deposition when they put it all in last year, which ended up with volunteer cattails coming up in the standing water at the bottom of the bed, but it seems to be sorted well enough now. I recommend taking a look at the pictures, if you're interested.
For
vdriscoll: These are the socks I'm working on, except that the skully bits are gray rather than white. I do seem to have sorted out my problems with gauge, more or less, and when I'm done with these I contemplate making myself a pair of extra long ones with some of the vast quantities of teal and purple sock yarn that I've picked up in previous years of sheep & wool festivals.
Also of note: for those in the NoVa area, the Potomac Celtic Festival is next weekend. It's a lovely little festival that has been going on at least since I was in high school (it was there that we had the conversation with an ancient celtic reenactor who responded to frivolous questioning by explaining, straight-faced, that the pretzel was an ancient celtic snack food based on a drawing from the Book of Kells.) My mother has run the storytelling stage for years, and says that they've hit the point where if they don't make enough money this year, they won't be able to afford to be back next year, so your admission fee or your volunteer time might make a difference, if this is the sort of thing you'd like to see continue.
