Yesterday involved the celtic festival, to which I brought my newly acquired giant vintage umbrella, and stayed out of the sun while never quite managing to stab
grauwulf in the eye. On the way back, we stopped in Frederick, where there was an actual Borders, containing actual books we wished to purchase. (Locally, we appear to have one mall with a mini-Borders that has just closed, and another mall with a mini-Borders that didn't stock anything we wanted but didn't already own, and the large Barnes & Noble by the Aquarium which doesn't take Borders gift cards.) I picked up the new Diana Wynne Jones book and made short work of it last night; it was good, but a little surprising, in that it's very much childrens' and yet one of the two main (3rd person POV) characters is in his 30s, and there's a bit more (fairly incidental) scandal than I'm used to seeing below YA. Not bad, just expectations are changing. Meanwhile,
grauwulf picked up something about a couple who get saddled with a lucky raccoon god, and he seems to be enjoying it.
Today has been hot and full of things like laundry and discarding parts of my childhood such as hats that I'm never going to wear again. I do still mean to talk about Byzantium, or rather why it is that I want to know about it and what the difficulty is with that, but in the mean time, I am going to try installing Safari 5 and hope I don't regret it.
So, I leave you with an article on stupid terrorist tricks, as cadged from the making light sidebar. Possibly we should be afraid of these people, but not for the reasons that the mainstream media keeps telling us.
