names of peas
Jun. 21st, 2010 03:46 pmAnd this is why the US government no longer knows my full name, as I didn't want to spend the rest of my life convincing computer systems that I really had two middle names. Incidentally, my great grandfather was one of those who wasn't named until he was several years old, and only then because the census taker (after trying back several times) told his parents that if they didn't name their son, he would. Later, he (my great grandfather) was known to complain that if it had taken them so long to come up with a name, they ought to have been able to do better than Ira.
On an unrelated note, the last of the peas have gotten inedibly bitter, and I am worrying that this is related to the soil (in the part of the yard where I put the raised bed specifically because I didn't fully trust the soil near the house not to have unhealthy old-house-debris in it...) and that the vast number of squashes that are growing will be equally inedible. Does anyone more vegetable-garden-savvy than I have thoughts on this?
