I had a dream the other night in which
grauwulf got so fed up with work and school that he was going to run off to Singapore and hang out on a riverboat in the jungle, abandoning me and the cat. The house had become a very gloomy place in the middle of one of those deeply wooded overgrown suburban lots, and it was full of dingy carpet and cabinets full of things owned by the previous occupants, and I was desperately trying to do math in my head to figure out how much money I needed to make to keep paying the mortgage and still eat. (for the record, I don't think I've ever made that much...) In the waking world,
grauwulf's school & work continue to get more stressful for particularly stupid reasons.
I have finished the post-pennsic laundry and begun trying to tackle the mending pile again, partly out of solidarity in not sitting around reading a book while the other person in the house has a ghastly finals week, and I've actually made some headway. It's always nice to find the pair of pants you thought needed patching was really only waiting for a button to be sewn back on. I'm also seriously wondering if I can arrange some kind of abandoned project swap, though, to which all the things I started and never want to see again can go to find people who will love them, finish them, or chop them up to make something else exciting. (Actually, I think someone should run a ragshop at pennsic, with a "bring your clean torn/stained/badly fitted garb" policy and give rummage credit for donations, sell everything else by the pound, and final donations go to somebody's loaner gear.)
I reduced the number of people I've told I should get together with sometime next week from four down to three by going to see my parents yesterday; this would have been a good idea, except that I foolishly decided to drive back during friday rush "hour" (which is to say, anytime between 2pm and 7pm, unless it's a holiday weekend, in which case it's more like noon to midnight...) and spent close to three hours in the car, mostly in stop and go traffic. Ugh. Remind me not to do that again. Unfortunately, that still leaves three unscheduled appointments for sometime in the near future, all of them with people on the VA side of the world, two of which ought to include
grauwulf, and I'm going to be out of town for half of next weekend. And I continue to experience failure to contact people. Bother. At least I made it to a doll meet today, which I haven't done in several months; as I carried Flopsy out the door,
grauwulf told me I needed to get her a mop and a rabbit. (think about it...)
