Saturday I drove up to Philadelphia, picked up a friend I hadn't seen in about seven and a half years from the airport, and we went off to [livejournal.com profile] heuchera's wedding shower/bachelorette party. Both events were quite low key, the former being a nice formal tea with extra enthusiasm brought by the groom-to-be's mother and a few of her good friends, and the latter a sleepover party for the "younger" set. (We realized part-way through that we were all within eleven months of age, with [livejournal.com profile] heuchera being the eldest, and me the youngest.) There was far too much food, most of which we entirely failed to make good use of, although I've been vaguely regretting not bringing home any of the brownies.

Sunday morning I made my meandering way to the Norristown Jomar Fabrics store, through lovely northern suburban roads, and started wondering why it was that I hated living there so much. In retrospect, it may have had more to do with disliking most of what I was actually doing at the time than it did with the area. Either way, Jomar was lovely also, and I got $30 of far too much fabric cut by a very talkative middle aged black guy who was convinced I was seventeen or maybe eighteen. (He was quite shocked to discover that this was not the case-- apparently we white girls age really well. I'm going to blame the pigtails... I'd just been telling people the evening before that random strangers had *stopped* mistaking me for sixteen.)

Then I drove home through far too much sunshine, and took a nap before making [livejournal.com profile] grauwulf drive us down to have a tasty dinner with [livejournal.com profile] ballistabob, [livejournal.com profile] belfebe & her elder son, and talk forever about a multitude of things. (That's two nights of not getting to bed until after midnight...) Then yesterday I joined the expedition to storvik fighter practice despite still not having a legal gorget to fight in, and after being eaten by mosquitos, taking a nice long walk, and watching people fence for a while, I went up to talk to the musicians who were playing for the dance practice and found myself suddenly sitting in front of some sheet music with a borrowed violin. In theory, someone is going to send me the music so I can print up my own book of it and not have to sight read the next time I go back. This was subsequently followed by wings & more talking with other fencers, and I feel that I'm tanked up on social interaction points in groups of more than two or three for... at least the rest of the week.

Indeed! Some day I should get around to acting on my vague ambitions of having small dinner parties and invite you guys over in return!

The sad thing about Jomar was that they had lots of lovely $3 linen & $6 wool, and I couldn't think of a thing I wanted to do with it. But I got some things I've been wanting for non-SCA clothes, and I now have two different Jomar locations programmed into the GPS, so I can always day-trip if it becomes necessary. :)
