The thrift store has provided, although I actually had something slightly larger than this in mind. However, it doesn't take up a lot of space in the living room and won't take up a lot of space wherever we end up storing it off season, and cost all of $4 that didn't support the creation of further plastic, so I'm calling it satisfactory. The lights are three of the 20-light strings that my parents got before I was born and I inherited when they got the new multi-flashing pattern kind when I was in high school. Ironically, the packaging says that they are "Low wattage Energy Saver;" next year perhaps I'll get to the buying of LED light strings bit. There may also be an addition of something for a tree skirt, or eventually a slightly sturdier block for a stand, but this is what we've got, and it's more festive than the grain-of-wheat LEDs I put on the fig tree.

The christmas letter died a neglected death-- after I finished my bit of it and passed it on to [personal profile] grauwulf to finish, although admittedly he's got a lot going on at the moment-- and we just sent out cards without. Nearly all of those have actually made it out of the house, though, and I think the only thing I'm left scrambling on is what else to get my mother, since I only have one very small thing for her, and no good ideas.

What a great find. It beats my mint green pipe cleaner tree we've been using the past few year (from your photo I thought your tree was real).

As for a gift for your mom, I don't know what kind of time you have this week nor do I know if she likes knitted gifts, there are a few lovely patterns over at knitty.com. I don't know if you got a chance to check out their patterns for this season or even their archives for that matter but the site might have something she might like.

Oh, and here is the link to the etsy shop I purchased my stamps from: http://www.etsy.com/shop/metalsupplychick?ref=pr_shop_more.

Thanks-- the tree isn't quite so convincing in person, but it's not bad at all, and about the right size to fit the light weight ornaments.

The main problem with presents for my mother is actually finding something she wants, sadly; I don't want to knit up something cool and just have it end up stuffed in the closet. :/ I think I may have to talk to my father and see if he's got anything extra that I can adopt.

(mmm, metal stamps-- which size were the ones you got?)

I completely understand. Over the years I put together a list of who to knit for and who not (unless they ask). My mom is one, except she just wants an amazon gift card and that's it. Not the most exciting gift to give. I only knit things for her is she request something. If not I'll see my brother or sister walking around with her knits-_-;

(The set I purchased was this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/59587945/economy-alphabet-set-upper-case-1-16-15
They have a slightly larger set available as well that is only a dollar or two more. The only difference I see with this set and the more expensive ones is how long they will last. But we'll see. I'm only using them for doll jewelry and not much else)
